Rodney Graham
School Yard Tree - Vancouver 2002.jpgWilliam Rodney Graham was born in 1949 in Abbotsford, BC. He studied Fine Arts at UBC. As a conceptual artist exploring the human experience, he became fascinated by the optics of light and seeing, and the creation of media and art history inspired vignettes that often include the artist in the scene. He has also explored pin-hole cameras and researched the Camera Obscura, an ancient scientific device that inverts imagery. Rodney's conceptual work reached a major turning point at the skulpturen projekte in Munster, Germany in 1987 and from that time, has received prominent, worldwide recognition. He is known primarily as a performance artist whose conceptual forms span video, photography, music, sculpture, drawing and installation. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2016.
