VOLUNTEERS ARE THE HEART & SOUL OF THE GORDON SMITH GALLERY OF CANADIAN ART!
Volunteers are an integral part of the success of the outstanding work of the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art. You dramatically increase the capacity and effectiveness of our organization and all of our programmes, projects, exhibitions and events. Volunteering with the Smith Gallery in any capacity assists in enriching the overall quality of life in this community where we live, work and play.
We are currently recruiting Gallery Attendants and Docents.
Gallery Attendants are present during the open hours of the Gallery to greet Gallery patrons, keep track of levels of attendance, and monitor the gallery. The attendant may also be occasionally asked to assist with office duties e.g. mailouts. No previous art or gallery experience necessary however an interest in art would be helpful and a willingness to learn is essential. Attendants must be comfortable handling money, processing sales transactions and working in the gallery independently.
Gallery Attendants volunteer for a 2 ½ hour period (12 to 2:30 or 2:30 to 5) on a regular scheduled basis (Gallery is open Wed thru Saturday).
Gallery docents or guides interpret art, guide people through the Gallery, encourage dialogue, provide information to visitors, and facilitate understandings about art. During the school year, docents lead school groups on tours of the gallery and animate the collection in dynamic ways for learners of all ages. There is also occasion to interpret the collection or exhibition through conversations and daily public tours.
