READYMADES -- the beautifully illustrated publication from the 2016 Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art Summer Exhibition – Readymades is now on sale. The 84-page book's design is by Judith Steedman and it is printed locally, at Hemlock Printers.
With essays by Patrik Andersson (on Gordon Smith and the readymade); Sven Lütticken (on 'the footprint' and the readymade); Bill Jeffries (on the exhibition, chess problems and Duchamp); and an interview between Catherine Millet and Marcelin Pleynet (published in English for the first time), all works in the exhibition are illustrated in full colour. Judith Penner created a poetic ode to the readymade for the book.
Readymades, the exhibition, was a hugely varied show that resulted from Gordon Smith's invitation extended to 11 artists: Arabella Campbell, Douglas Coupland, Stan Douglas, Gathie Falk, Geoffrey Farmer, Rodney Graham, Brian Jungen, Damian Moppett, Mina Totino, Ian Wallace and David Weir.
