for Kids offers different learning opportunities through our Mentoring Emerging Young Artists program. During
several days, students who are nominated by their school are taken out
of the regular classroom stream and given the opportunity to work with a
professional artist at the AFK Studios.
The Ferry Building Gallery Friends Society has generously supported our program with funding for two years. Through their contribution, we have been able to bring esteemed artists such as Brendan Tang, Erin McSavaney and Mike Wakefield to work with senior students from North Vancouver and West Vancouver.
Students are selected by their schools and teachers. The emerging young artists spend three full days working with a professional artist, along with a master art teacher. The result is a remarkable collaboration of insight and inspiration.
The work created in these visual arts programs is displayed at the end of the year in an exhibition at the Ferry Building Gallery, 1414 Argyle Avenue in West Vancouver. The community is invited to see the work and impact that focussed art education can provide.
