Welcome back

Somehow it's September again. And this September is a particularly busy one.

We are proud to announce the opening of our newest Teaching Exhibition, [ab-strak-shuh n] the art and the act. This exhibition, drawing on abstract works from the Artists for Kids Permanent Teaching Collection, is an exploration of abstraction as seen through the minds of many of Canada's most well respected artists. It includes works from Alan Wood, Jack Shadbolt, Guido Molinari, Jean McEwan, Graham Gilmore, Etienne Zack, Gordon Smith, Toni Onley and Douglas Coupland. The exhibit opens for Culture Days, with events scheduled on the weekend of September 30 – October 2, 2016.

In addition, this fall we will be offering new enrichment programs. Amy Brown will be sharing her collage skills with students in Grades 7, 8 and 9. Brendan Tang, a skilled and creative ceramicist, will teach senior students in Grades 10 – 12. Our enrichment programs are an example of our commitment to bringing together students and teachers with artists, so the skills and stories of one generation of artists can be shared with the next.

Through the year, we will be releasing new limited-edition prints from Greg Murdock, Graham Gillmore, Arnold Shives and Damien Moppett. These original prints will sell quickly, so be sure to watch our website for the latest information.

We are proud to participate in our first Elder College program, called The Art and Act of Print Making. Running for four weeks, the program will provide a behind-the-scenes look at art, the functioning of a gallery, and a hands-on printmaking workshop. Classes run from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 8, 15 and 22, 2016. To register for this program, contact Capilano College Continuing Studies.

And our ever-popular After School Art Programs begin in October, offering drawing, painting, ceramics and more.

It will be a busy fall at Artists for Kids, and we look forward to seeing you at one or many of our upcoming events.

Welcome back.
